Hey Founders!

When was the last time you bragged a little online?

And when was the last time you admitted your parents were right about something?

This week has room for both. Film one, reply to this email, and send me your TikTok. I want to see it!

This Week's Quick Take

Admit when you were wrong. Founders love watching another founder learn something the hard way, and it gets people on your side fast.

Trend 1 — The Housewife Trend

Okay, this one is so fun!

Tate McRae just dropped her new song "Housewife," and it's taking over my fyp.

A lot of the videos are dances. RESIST THE URGE. You don't need choreography for this one.

The version you want is the show-off. Film yourself next to something you did yourself, give the camera a big confident smile, and let the song do the rest.

On-screen text: [POV: I built this myself] or keep it short: "Me too Tate. Me too."

Why it Works For You:

This is a humble brag with a sense of humor. You get to show off results without sounding salesy, because the song is doing the bragging for you.

Here are some ideas:

  • Your product on the shelf for the first time

  • The dashboard you coded at 2am

  • Your first invoice, marked PAID

  • The office you set up with your own two hands (and an Allen wrench)

Trend 2 — The Listening Ears Activated Trend

Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

What's the one topic that makes you sit straight up in a meeting?

Film yourself zoned out. Scrolling, staring at the wall, half asleep at your desk. Then snap to full attention like someone just said your name.

On-screen text: How fast I lock in when [the thing you love] comes up

You don't even need to act much. White text on a plain clip works too. It takes about 2 minutes.

Why it Works For You:

The joke is the switch, so make it big. Go from slumped to sitting up so fast your chair moves.

This also tells people what you care about without a speech. If your magic words are about your product, that's a free plug that still feels like a joke.

Here are some ideas:

  • How fast I lock in when a customer says "quick question about pricing"

  • How fast I lock in when an investor asks about our margins

  • How fast I lock in when someone in a meeting says "can we automate this?"

  • How fast I lock in when someone mentions coffee

Trend 3 — The It's Making Sense Now Trend

Last but not least, the biggest trend of the week.

Remember all the stuff your parents or your old boss said that drove you crazy? It's making sense now, isn't it?

Film one shot of yourself doing a grown up thing. Then nod along to the audio: "It's making sense now... I get it. You're right."

On-screen text: When I [did a grown up thing] and realized why [someone] always said [thing]

The top one is a guy staring at a grocery receipt with the text "when i buy my own groceries and realize why my parents always said there's food at home." 3.7M views!

Why it Works For You:

Every founder has a list of these. Running a company is basically one long apology to every manager you ever had.

People share what they recognize in themselves, and other founders will be in your comments with their own version.

Here are some ideas:

  • When I ran payroll for the first time and realized why my old boss said no to everything

  • When I started paying for ads and realized why every brand begs for reviews

  • When I hired my first employee and realized why my manager wanted everything in writing

Likkkkeeeee if I were to do this, I'd probably say: when I started a company and realized why my mom always told me to get some sleep.
